How to play Ludo

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Ludo. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A useful example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Compare the situation with the worked example. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
