How to play Snake

Choose a round of Snake and settle into its rules. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Use the example below to understand a decision. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Look at what changes after your first action.

Keep the aim in sight

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Start with a deliberate move.

Step by step

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Controls

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Keep the game’s format in mind.

Watch out for this

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Check the rule before repeating the action. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
