How to play Word Search

Try Word Search at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Begin with the solo mode shown on the page. Look at what changes after your first action.

Each board contains eight target words from the included English word list.

Try a deliberate move

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Notice how the game responds to your input.

Step by step

1. Select the first and last letter of a straight word.
2. Words can run horizontally, vertically or diagonally, in either direction.
3. Find all eight targets.
4. New puzzle shuffles again.

Controls

Tap or click endpoints. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

A useful example

Selecting the endpoints in reverse order also finds the same word. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

Words cannot turn corners. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
